Can you delete your IRCTC account?

Short answer

Not by yourself. IRCTC publishes no way to delete an account, and its own Google Play listing for IRCTC Rail Connect states that it provides no way to request that your data be deleted. The nearest route is a written request through IRCTC’s eQuery portal, equery.irctc.co.in.

What a search summary leaves out: IRCTC’s privacy policy lets it keep your details “for as long as is reasonably necessary”, and longer where legal, regulatory, tax or accounting rules require it. Your bookings also went to the Railways and other suppliers, which the policy says handle them outside IRCTC’s control. If all you want is fewer promotional emails, the unsubscribe link in each mail is the opt-out IRCTC’s policy names — no closure needed.

What to do instead

  1. Write through IRCTC eQuery
    https://equery.irctc.co.in/
IRCTC’s own portal for submitting and tracking queries. Ask for the account to be closed and for personal data the law does not require it to keep to be erased, and ask it to tell you what it keeps and why. Keep the reference number.
  2. Email, if you must
    etickets@irctc.co.in
The only general IRCTC mailbox on its contact page. It is listed for problems cancelling e-tickets or filing TDRs, and IRCTC says to write from the registered email ID only — so eQuery is the better place for this.
  3. Phone
14646 (within India), the customer-support number on IRCTC’s contact page.

What stays behind, even if IRCTC agrees

Before you write, save any e-tickets and refund (TDR) records you may still need.

Deleting the account is not the same as deleting the data

IRCTC’s own privacy policy, which we read on 2026-08-12, says it may still do the following. Closing your account does not by itself withdraw your consent to these:

Where the DPDP Act stands

Section 12 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 gives you a right to ask for erasure. IRCTC is a government-owned company under the Ministry of Railways, and Section 17(4) switches the erasure right off for processing by “the State or any instrumentality of the State”. Whether IRCTC counts has not been tested.

The Act also commences in stages up to May 2027, so a request today asks for voluntary compliance rather than citing a duty in force. It is still worth sending: it is dated, and any later escalation rests on when you first asked.

Questions

Can I delete my IRCTC account?

Not by yourself. IRCTC publishes no way to delete an account, and its Google Play listing for IRCTC Rail Connect states that it provides no way to request that your data be deleted. The nearest route is a written request through IRCTC's eQuery portal (equery.irctc.co.in).

Can I deactivate my IRCTC account instead?

IRCTC publishes no self-service deactivation either, so ask for it in the same eQuery request. If what you want is fewer emails, the unsubscribe link in each promotional mail is the opt-out IRCTC's privacy policy names.

What does IRCTC keep after I ask?

Its privacy policy says it keeps personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary, and longer where legal, regulatory, tax or accounting requirements apply. Booking details already passed to the Railways and other suppliers are processed by them as independent controllers, outside IRCTC's control.

What if IRCTC ignores my request?

Section 12 of India's DPDP Act 2023 covers erasure, but Section 17(4) switches that right off for processing by the State or its instrumentalities, and whether government-owned IRCTC counts has not been tested. The Act also commences in stages up to May 2027, so a request now asks for voluntary compliance and records the date you asked.
